I really don’t owe my Trump-supporting friends an apology. I’ve been critical of Trump these last several years, and am still exhausted from the experience. But to be fair, Trump wasn’t that bad…………..other than when.

Republican culture

Loren Niemi

A repeat for the folks in the back who are asking “why have the Repubs gone off the deep end?”

From the NYT (on this date in 2017) explaining a semantic distinction:

“White supremacy is based on a racist belief that white people are innately superior to people of other races; white nationalism is about maintaining political and economic dominance, not just a numerical majority or cultural hegemony.

For a long time, white nationalism was less an ideology than the default presumption of American life. Until quite recently, white Americans could easily see the nation as essentially an extension of their own ethnic group.

But the country’s changing demographics, the civil rights movement and a push for multiculturalism in many quarters mean that white Americans are now confronting the prospect of a nation that is no longer built solely around their own identity.”

It is that “default” presumption that is unconscious or unquestioned that needs to be addressed. Saying that “all men are created equal” does not mean only (Christian) white men though it was thought to be self evident at the time. The reality that I live is that “all” means the spectrum of gender, belief and ethnicity…. that “equality” means worth (dignity), opportunity and rights/legal protections afforded to “all” not just those who are my ilk.

In as much as the Republican party has chosen to be the party of white nationalism, it has become opposed equality and democracy.

We. Need SENSIBLE legislation.

Separation -(Purloined from FB)

Lori Love
5d

“I hate to burst anyone’s bubble, but we don’t live in a Christian nation founded on Biblical principles. We live in a secular nation founded on the U.S. Constitution, which protects your freedom to be a Christian if you so choose, and to live by Biblical principles, whatever you interpret those to be. It also protects the freedom of those who choose otherwise. It’s kind of a beautiful thing.

“If you’re a Muslim, no one can make you eat pork. If you’re a Christian, you can load up on the bacon and ham with a big greasy grin on your face. If you don’t subscribe to any religion at all, the world is your buffet. It even works well within Christianity. Southern Baptist? No one can make you say a Hail Mary. Catholic? No one can keep you from wearing your ‘I love the Pope’ hat to the mall. Do you think gay marriage is a sin? OK, fine. Check your fiancé’s genitals before the ceremony and everything should be A-OK. Just remember, it’s not your place to peek inside the pants of other people’s partners.

“So you can go your merry way and let others do the same. See how that works? You get to live YOUR life according to your beliefs. You don’t get to force others to live theirs that way. And they don’t get to force you to live their way either. This is how our funny little government works for everyone. This is why it’s a handy dandy thing to remember that, should you seek an office or a job in government, YOU ALSO WILL BE WORKING FOR EVERYONE when you clock in each day.

“It’s also good to remember this is why the courthouse lawn and other tax payer funded facilities are not churches or temples or mosques. The Ten Commandments may look lovely hanging in your church or on your wall at home, but, unless you want to allow symbols of other religions including nine-foot bronze statues of a half-man-half-goat with curly horns from the Temple of Satan to greet you when you go to the DMV to get your plates renewed, it’s really best to leave those things up to the private individual to display. Any Pentecostals cool with a shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe at your state Capitol building? No? Well, then maybe you get my point.

“Your church, however wonderful it may be, has not been appointed to govern those who don’t wish to attend it. Your holy book, however full of wisdom you find it to be, has not been passed into legislation. And if you ever study what happens when any religion is given a pass to govern with that kind of power, you’ll thank God it isn’t that way here.”

Deal with it.

Thoughts about ‘Kneeling’

The playing of the National Anthem at sporting events is NOT a patriotic ritual.

It IS a paid commercial advertisement, exactly the same as for pain killers and trucks.

It is paid for by the United States Government from your taxes furthering its policy of ‘yellow jingoism’. (Google it)

Colin Kaepernick knelt during the playing of the National Anthem to protest the second – class status of non- white persons in our country.

buzz windrip (google it ) wrongly interpreted this as disrespect to the Anthem, the Flag, our Nation and servicemen.

(IMHO) buzz windrip went on to use this to incite racism and division in the American Culture, most probably with the encouragement of Russia.

If you work the cash register at McDonald’s, you would not be allowed to wear a Burger King tee shirt on duty. This is a logical management prerogative.

By extension, employee players on duty on the field represent their employer and do not necessarily have a right, under those circumstances, to engage in behavior against management policy.

That being said, Management has an inherent responsibility to attend to the needs and issues of their employees. Disgruntled employees probably don’t contribute fully to winning games.

Management pandering to a perceived issue of its employees is self-destructive.

I am disappointed that ALL non-white players fail to kneel.

I am disappointed that White players do not kneel in support.

I am disappointed that this is not a total team effort.

I am disappointed that spectators do not kneel in support of their teams.

(IMHO) If all persons present knelt in agreement, the divider of our society and nation would no longer have the power to stoke hatred between diverse areas of our society.

ALFs

Leo Regulus
June 3 at 11:23am ·

(IMHO) These last rate ALFs & ‘Nursing Homes’ are the scourge of South Florida. (although we may not have a monopoly on it) If you have a loved one in one of these places, VISIT THEM REGULARLY ! Do not be fooled by the lush green grass growing over the cesspool. Inspect the place like an Army Drill Sgt. Be paranoid. Check the make and model of the cars driven by management & upper staff. – What is your loved one paying for? Suspicious? The state of Florida (and most others) has an inspection service for these places. Your taxes pays for this inspection service. USE them. NEVER FORGET, You will be their next client. Insure that you have a nice place to go.

FCC Complaint about Comcast’s 300g limit.

Let’s  talk about:  Complaint to FCC concerning Comcast’s move to cap web access to 300g per month at current rates and additional charges for use beyond 300g.

Initial complaint filed with FCC, Feb 4, 2016

FCC response with ticket number received on Feb 9, 2016

I was telephonically contacted by a Comcast Rep concerning this on 16 Feb 2016.

We had a very long and involved conversation.

Comcast maintained the position that they absolutely had the right to do what they were doing.

(And, (between the lines) as with all deities, demanded that all subjects bow to the will of the supreme deity (Comcast) with love, affection and no question.)

I explained my position with:

(1) I do not recognize the right of Comcast to arbitrarily raise prices.

(2) That this action on their part was a classic “Bait and Switch” rip – off.

(3) that Comcast was using its’ monopoly power position to leverage this action.

(4) Apparently this is a ‘Test’ project and not necessarily applicable to all clients (why am I Comcast’s ‘Guinea Pig’ at my expense, denigration and harassment)

Next, I challenge their computation of my data usage.

(1) By Comcast’s own computation, prior to the inception of this new rate increase, I had never used more than 192g pm.

(2.) Suddenly, In Nov of 2015 Comcast stated that I had used 408g (more than twice my previous ‘high’ of 192g.  I cannot attribute this increase to any additional activity on-line that I can think of.

(3.)  This month (Feb), here on the 16th, I am already at 271g and have had a warning email from Comcast to let me know that I am over 90% of my limit.

(4)  My primary-use computer states that I have used 22.03g of data for the past 30 days – other users are considerably less.(Win 10 on task bar hit the NetWork icon >Network Settings >(top left) Data usage.)

(5) My Modem, Motorola SBG 6580 has no function or capability of reporting or recording traffic volume statistics on its’ menu that is accessible to the user.

(6) (apparently) Comcast is using a 3rd party to compile these statistics – not Comcast itself.

Finally, I emphasized on more than one occasion:  ‘I DO NOT TRUST YOU’. – Not the rep, Comcast.

If you have not made an FCC complaint and are effected by this (rip-off), please make a complaint.
